Already one of the top 100 "wired" campuses in the nation according to Yahoo Internet Life magazine, Tulane is installing more than 600 access points that will soon make it one of only a handful of universities in the country to offer wireless computer access universitywide. Going "wireless" means students will be able to access lecture notes, assignments, e-mail and data from the Internet through their laptop computers from anywhere at the university, indoors or outdoors.

The nationally recognized Tulane Men Against Rape was the first program of its kind in the nation. The program received the 2001 Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, which honors students and campuses that have demonstrated leadership in improving college and university campus safety.

Each of the 3,600 students who have earned a Juris Doctor degree from Tulane Law School since 1990 has successfully performed community service work. The 12th-oldest law school in the country, Tulane Law School was the first to require pro bono work for all graduates.

The Tulane University Law School offers more summer law schools abroad than any law school in the United States, with 15 sessions at 10 sites in eight countries. The law school also has one of the largest graduate law programs in the country, enrolling more than 75 foreign attorneys in the LLM program.

For the past 20 years Tulane has had more of its graduates join the Peace Corps than any other university in Louisiana. There are 26 Tulane alums active in the Corps; 305 have served since 1961.

The Tulane University School of Medicine, at age 168, is the second-oldest medical school in the Deep South.

Tulane University is home to the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women, the oldest university-based women's center in the Gulf South. Newcomb College was the first degree-granting women's coordinate college in the nation.

The forerunner of Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, called the Tulane School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was the first such institution in the United States, established in 1912. More recently, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine developed the first Master of Public Health clinical research curriculum in the nation. The program was developed through a grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Tulane University is home to the Tulane Regional Primate Research Center, one of only eight federally funded primate research centers in the United States.
