BOLD
Already one of the top 100 "wired" campuses in the nation according to Yahoo Internet Life magazine, Tulane is installing more than 600 access points that will soon make it one of only a handful of universities in the country to offer wireless computer access universitywide. Going "wireless" means students will be able to access lecture notes, assignments, e-mail and data from the Internet through their laptop computers from anywhere at the university, indoors or outdoors.
WIRED
The nationally recognized Tulane Men Against Rape was the first program of its kind in the nation. The program received the 2001 Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, which honors students and campuses that have demonstrated leadership in improving college and university campus safety.
INVOLVED
Each of the 3,600 students who have earned a Juris Doctor degree from Tulane Law School since 1990 has successfully performed community service work. The 12th-oldest law school in the country, Tulane Law School was the first to require pro bono work for all graduates.
CONSCIENTIOUS
The Tulane Center for Gene Therapy, established in 2000, occupies 14,000 square feet of lab space in the university's health sciences center. The gene therapy center is the first major center in the United States to focus on using adult stem cells for medical research.
PATHFINDER
Tulane University entered into a unique partnership with Xavier University and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to oversee the Housing Authority of New Orleans, the country's sixth-largest housing authority and at that time the nation's worst. Tulane is the only university in the country to fill this type of role.
GROUNDBREAKING
Tulane Law School students have appeared in more than 200 court cases through the school's Environmental Law Clinic, the largest environmental law clinic in the United States. The clinic has become known for its willingness to take on high-profile cases to provide quality legal care to indigent clients. Its work earned it the first-ever American Bar Association award for the best public-interest school of 2000.

SURPRISING
The Tulane University Law School offers more summer law schools abroad than any law school in the United States, with 15 sessions at 10 sites in eight countries. The law school also has one of the largest graduate law programs in the country, enrolling more than 75 foreign attorneys in the LLM program.
WORLDLY
For the past 20 years Tulane has had more of its graduates join the Peace Corps than any other university in Louisiana. There are 26 Tulane alums active in the Corps; 305 have served since 1961.
PEACE-FULL
Tulane's Latin American Library, established in 1924, holds the strongest Central American collection in the United States and one of the most comprehensive Latin American collections in the world. The collection contains some 400,000 volumes.
STRONG
Tulane University is home to the Amistad Research Center, the nation's largest repository of art and archival materials about African Americans and other ethnic minorities. Amistad's collection comprises more than one million linear feet of manuscripts and printed resources as well as a large and well-rounded collection of African-American and African art.

Tulane's Hogan Jazz Archives is the world's premier source of oral history, recordings, photographs and books on New Orleans jazz. The collection includes more than 60,000 sound recordings and 2,000 reels of audiotape containing oral histories.

Community Action Council of Tulane University Students (CACTUS) is the oldest and largest continually running student-run volunteer organization in the nation, with its members contributing 20,000 hours a year to community service work.

SCHOLARLY
The Gourman Report of Undergraduate and Professional Programs in American and International Universities ranks Tulane's Latin American Studies program as second in the United States. The center is also one of only 19 Latin American Studies programs in the country designated as a National Resource Center by the U.S. Department of Education.
A NATIONAL RESOURCE
Tulane University was ranked eighth nationally in the 2001 Open Doors report for the proportion of students studying abroad in 1999-2000. The report, an annual publication that reviews international educational activity by U.S. universities, estimated that 23.8 percent of Tulane students participated in Study Abroad for 1999-2000.
INTERNATIONAL
Tulane University is located in one of the top 10 "Great College Towns," according to The Princeton Review's 2002 annual college guide. The Tulane University School of Medicine, at age 168, is the second-oldest medical school in the Deep South.
HISTORIC
Tulane University is home to the Newcomb College Center for Research on Women, the oldest university-based women's center in the Gulf South. Newcomb College was the first degree-granting women's coordinate college in the nation.
NOTEWORTHY
The forerunner of Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, called the Tulane School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was the first such institution in the United States, established in 1912. More recently, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine developed the first Master of Public Health clinical research curriculum in the nation. The program was developed through a grant from the National Institutes of Health.
A LEADER
Tulane University is home to the Tulane Regional Primate Research Center, one of only eight federally funded primate research centers in the United States. The university also is home to a Regional Humanities Center focused on the Deep South, one of only nine humanities centers in the nation established through funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
DISTINCTIVE
The 2001-02 freshman class averaged 1326 on its SAT scores, 306 points above the national average and 48 points higher than four years ago. The rise in SAT scores coincides with a 31 percent increase in applications for first-year students enjoyed by Tulane for fall 2001. The current first-year class was assembled from a field of more than 10,000 applicants.

Tulane University is one of only 63 major American and Canadian research universities that are members of the Association of American Universities.
